Overview
This 2026 Peterbilt 589 Traditional is a sleeper tractor configured with an 80" high-roof Platinum interior sleeper, built for over-the-road and long-haul highway operation, specced to pull 53' flatbed trailers.

Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a Cummins X15, Performance Series, rated 565 HP governed at 1,900 RPM with 1,850 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 RPM, 2024-emissions compliant. Paired with an Eaton EXDP-18F118D Endurant XD Pro 18-speed automated transmission with a column-mounted shifter, performance shift calibration, and neutral coast mode at pedal (X15 only). RPL20 interaxle driveline and RPL25 SD driveline with 2 midship bearings. Rear axle ratio of 3.70. Equipped with a Jacobs compression brake, predictive cruise control package, and powertrain optimized for performance, with a typical operating speed of 75 MPH and an effective VSL setting of 65.0 MPH. Engine is calibrated with gear-down protection, engine protection shutdown, an idle shutdown timer, a PTO maximum engine speed of 1,400 RPM, and a maximum cruise control speed of 75 MPH. Also includes a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator, 4 PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries (2,920 CCA), PACCAR premium starter, immersion-type block heater, 37.4 CFM air compressor, 2-speed fan clutch, high-efficiency cooling system, and a DAVCO 382 fuel/water separator. Dual SOC DPF/SCR aftertreatment is mounted RH under cab (single module), with chrome dual exhaust, 7" chrome-plated standpipes, and a stainless muffler guard.

Chassis & Axles
Frame consists of 10-3/4" steel rails (355"–384") at 3/8" thickness, zinc-coated and anti-corrosion treated, with aluminum crossmembers. Front axle is a Dana Spicer E1322IL rated 13,200 lbs with a 3.5" drop, Peterbilt front air leaf springs, Sheppard HD94 power steering, and Bendix ADB22X-LT front disc brakes. Rear axle is a Dana Spicer DSP41 rated 40,000 lbs with Bendix air cam drum brakes (16.5x8.6), ABS, Bendix ESP electronic stability program with ATC, and tire pressure monitoring. Wheelbase measures 280", with a 99.90" FAX/BOC, 180.10" cab-to-axle, and 236.10" cab-to-end-of-frame. GVWR is 53,200 lbs (GAWR front 13,200 lbs / first intermediate 20,000 lbs / second intermediate 20,000 lbs), with a maximum grade rating of 6%. Holland FW35 fifth wheel on a 48" air slide with inboard mounting and slide controls. Aluminum battery box with non-slip step, (2) additional aluminum tool boxes, a chromed steel Texas-style bumper with 2 tow points, and a frame-mounted deck plate/access package on both sides. Dual polished aluminum fuel tanks (135-gal RH / 100-gal LH BOC) with rear fill, plus a 24-gallon polished DEF tank.

Suspension
Peterbilt low-low air leaf rear suspension rated 40,000 lbs with a 52" spread, plus a dash-mounted dump switch with suspension load indicator light.

Cab & Interior
Aluminum cab with 131" BBC aluminum hood, polished crown, and spring tilt assist. 80" high-roof sleeper with Platinum interior in Alpine Gray, second bunk, sleeper walkthrough curtain, premium pocket-spring mattress, cabinet shelving, sleeper cabinet door/drawer package, hanging file storage, and 18" sleeper side extenders. Includes provisions for a 22" flat-panel TV with wiring/bracket, a 1.8 ft³ refrigerator with cosmetic door, rear sleeper audio controls, a thermal insulation package, and rubber flooring. Sears Atlas 80 air-ride, high-back driver and passenger seats trimmed in Ultraleather (black), with armrests, an adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column, and a premium leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with integrated audio/cruise controls. One-piece curved windshield with privacy curtain, power door locks/windows, sleeper tilting windows, a combo fresh-air heater/AC, a stainless steel outside sun visor, and heated/motorized 7"x18" West Coast mirrors with (2) 8" convex heated mirrors. Equipped with a 7" infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, a premium 6-speaker cab audio package, a 2-speaker sleeper audio system with amp/subwoofer, a Cobra 29 CB radio with dual 48" antennas, global telematics hardware, and wiring provisions for a DriveCam system. An 1800W inverter with battery charger and shore power (GFCI) is also included. A 15" digital cluster display shows drive axle oil temps, engine/transmission oil temp, automated trans clutch temp, air filter restriction, brake and suspension air pressure, trailer reservoir pressure, engine/PTO hourmeters, manifold pressure, and percent torque. Rounded out with LED headlights featuring integrated turn signals, additional marker and load lighting, a fire extinguisher, a backup alarm, and keyless entry.

Tires & Wheels
Front tires are 11R24.5 16-ply Bridgestone R273 Ecopia; rear tires are 11R24.5 14-ply Bridgestone M726 ELA (8 rear tires). Wheels are Peterbilt 98U677 24.5x8.25 high-polish aluminum, front and rear (8 rear wheels), with mirror-polish outer surfaces and wheel guards fitted to the steer and tandem axles.
