Overview
This 2026 Peterbilt 589 Traditional is an aluminum-cab day cab tractor configured for general freight hauling, set up to pull 53' van trailers up to 13'6" tall. Primarily intended for highway operation, with a fifth wheel ready for over-the-road service.

Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a Cummins X15 rated 565 HP, governed at 1,900 RPM, with 1,850 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 RPM (Performance Series, 2024-emissions compliant). Paired with an Eaton Endurant XD Pro 18-speed automated transmission (EXDP-18F118D) and an oil-to-water transmission cooler. Driveline consists of an RPL25 SD shaft with a midship bearing and an RPL20 interaxle driveline. Column-mounted shifter on the RH side, with performance shift calibration, an off-road second-shift calibration, a rock-free mode switch, and neutral coast mode at the pedal. Rear axle ratio is 3.91. Equipped with a Jacobs compression brake, PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator, four PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries (2,920 CCA), PACCAR 12V starter, a 110-120V immersion-type block heater, a 37.4 CFM air compressor, a 2-speed fan clutch for frequent start/stop duty, and a predictive cruise control package.

Chassis & Axles
Front axle is a Meritor MFS+13B rated 13,200 lbs with a 3.5" drop, taper leaf springs, Sheppard HD94 power steering, air disc front brakes, and a wide-track configuration. Rear axle is a Meritor RT46-160 rated 46,000 lbs with a differential lock on both tandem axles (speed interlock), air disc rear brakes, and PHP10 preset+ hubs (aluminum front / iron rear). GAWR is rated 13,200 lbs front and 23,000 lbs on each drive axle; GVWR is 59,200 lbs, with a GCW rating of 120,000 lbs. Wheelbase measures 230". Frame consists of 10-5/8" steel rails (286"-325" length, 5/16" thickness) with zinc-coated, anti-corrosion-treated rails, aluminum frame rail crossmembers, and heavy-duty iron front spring brackets (forward and rear). Safety systems include Bendix ESP electronic stability program with ATC, 6S6M anti-lock braking, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Suspension
Peterbilt Air Trac rear suspension rated 46,000 lbs with a 52" axle spread, a steel suspension insert rated for up to 77" of overhang, and a dash-mounted dump switch with suspension indicator light.

Cab & Interior
Aluminum day cab with a 131" BBC aluminum hood, polished crown, and spring tilt assist; no sleeper (day cab configuration) with a thermal insulation package. Premier interior finished in Alpine Gray with a rubber floor. Sears Atlas 80 driver and passenger seats trimmed in Ultraleather, air-ride/high-back for both positions, with driver and passenger armrests. Adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column with a premium leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel (PB logo, integrated audio and cruise controls). Dark window tint and a 3-piece fixed glass rear cab window. Instrumentation is a 15" digital cluster display with bright bezel gauges, including drive axle front and rear oil temperature gauges, engine oil temperature, transmission oil temperature, automated transmission clutch temperature, air suspension pressure, fuel filter restriction, manifold pressure, and an ABS off-road switch. Audio package includes a ConcertClass AM/FM radio with weatherband and 3.5mm aux input, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone/audio, USB port, dual USB charging port, a standard two-speaker package, and a Cobra 29 CB radio with roof-mounted antenna. Cab air suspension included.

Body & Equipment
Fifth wheel is a Holland FW35 top plate, inboard-mounted (air slide only), with LH release, 8.6"-9.25" height, a Holland heavy-duty air slide, no-tilt convertible design, an 18" air slide with slide controls, set on the centerline of the bogie. Dual exhaust routes through a single-module DPF/SCR system mounted RH under cab, with 45-degree curved-tip standpipes, chrome exhaust pipes, a 48" chrome standpipe with clear coat, a 7" chrome-plated steel standpipe, and a DPF regeneration switch. Fuel system consists of split aluminum tanks — 135-gallon RH-behind-cab and 100-gallon LH-behind-cab (235-gallon total capacity) — polished, with a fuel cooler and dual shutoff valves for draw/return. DEF is carried in a 24-gallon medium tank mounted LH behind the cab with a polished stainless steel cover. Exterior protection includes a chrome steel Texas-style bumper with two tow points and a heavy-duty external tow eye, braceless stainless steel quarter fenders, and stainless steel premium rear mudflap hangers. Lighting includes five aero LED marker lights, LED projector headlight modules with integral turn signals, self-canceling turn signals, LED oval stop/turn/tail/backup lights, and two LED load lights. Equipped with four round PB air horns roof-mounted, heated/motorized 7"x18" west coast mirrors plus two heated convex mirrors and a look-down mirror over the passenger door, and a variable-adjusting backup alarm (87-112 dB). Technology includes SmartLinq RD telematics (5-year subscription), global telematics hardware, and J1939 connection provisions. Air system includes polished aluminum air tanks mounted outside the frame rails plus natural-finish aluminum tanks under the box, and a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with heater and extended purge. Exterior is finished in a two-stage Axalta paint in Bahama Blue with a black-painted frame.

Tires & Wheels
Front tires are CN 16-ply 11R24.5 HSR3; rear tires are CN 16-ply 11R24.5 HDL2 DL+ across the tandem (8 total). Mounted on Peterbilt 98U677 24.5x8.25 high-polish aluminum wheels, front and rear.
